Monday Monday

I found the most awesome quilt at knitnlit.blogspot.com. She found the coolest design and decided to make it into a quilt...half triangle squares. There are 72 blocks and each one is unique. She posts one block each Monday but get this...it will take 72 weeks to complete. She began in 2012 and anticipates completion in 2014. I just might jump in on this especially since it is two colors of your choice. She is doing black and white and it is striking..... On another side of the nostril, I went to a Council of 101 meeting, which is a volunteer group of women who do fundraising for the Orlando Museum of Art. It isn't a group you just sign up for, you Need a sponsor and are a provide just like a sorority. We do two major fundraisers annually, the Festival of Trees which is a ten day event before Thanksgiving that sets the tone for the holiday season and the Antique show in February featuring antiques, garden ideas and appraisers. I will write more tomorrow as sleep just knocked me in the head....ciao bells

I am QUILTING!!!!! I decided that with all the effort I have put into making this Quilt I decided that I would give it the old Navy try and do it myself. Scared? You Better believe it. But it would really be mine if I did it. Taking a piece of Scrap material my mentor drew a straight line and a wave of sorts on the fabric. .......to he continued (I'm sleepy)

Control Myself....

Someone told me that once I started quilting, I would get hooked. Yes, I have become a quilting addict....I now have bins (yes more than one) of fabric, bought a Bernina used (in the sewing world it would be like updating from a hoopty car to a luxury vehicle). I had never really heard about anything but a Singer or a Kenmore. After bringing my nameless machine to quilting class, the other ladies were kind enough not to snicker. I soon learned that it made a big difference what kind of machine you used when you quilted. To be honest, I can't imagine how our foremothers did it. Luckily after five weeks of class, I happened to find a used Bernina on sale. Now let me say that I never thought that sewing machines could be costly so when I began doing some research I choked on soda quite a few times. The reason I looked at Bernina was because everyone who came into the particular quilt shop where I attended class all had that brand. I was told that once I used it I would never go back to anything else.....and they were right!!!! Sewing on that machine which I have named Ethel Belle (after my grandmother who was a queen of embroidery and crochet) is like driving my Corvette..... I went to a local Habitat ReStore and found an antique sewing machine in a cabinet and the added benefit of a chair. I asked Sweet Thing to remove the sewing machine and replace the open space with a piece of wood. My intent was to strip the cabinet, repaint it and use it for my sewing machine. IT CAME OUT AWESOME! As soon as I can figure out how to post pictures here I will do that.

Been a long time.....

Well, it has been a long time sinc I posted anything. Life has changed a great deal in three years but I am in a much happier place now! First of all, I finally came to my senses and realized that I no longer had joy in my workplace. After a long talk with a counselor, my dear heart and my kids, I made the decision to retire early. My supervisor was pretty shocked when I walked in the next day and gave my notice and to tell the truth, I felt as if the world was lifted off my shoulders. Lots of my coworkers who left before me all said that there was no way they could explain the sense of relief that went through them and I have to admit that I finally understood how it felt. Since retiring from work it took me a long time to adjust to not having a schedule. But I have managed to find out things that do take up my time....volunteering, getting back into,y facepainting, photography, my corvette, my fifth wheel rv (discovered how much I enjoy going camping and fishing) and Quilting! This is probably be more about this passion more than anything else but from time to time personal thoughts will creep in
